WLP Tools: Basic tools for analysing learning potentials, learning provisions and learning achievements
Introduction
The Work and Learning Partners (WLP) project has been developing tools that help training providers and interested enterprises to consider how they could develop closer cooperation in the context of workplace learning.
On the following pages the WLP project presents applications of three tools:
- Learning Potential Analysis (LPA) helps to clarify what areas of learning are well represented at certain workplaces (and which areas are not represented). By analysing different learning contexts it is possible to see how different workplaces can combine their areas of strength by partnership-oriented cooperation.
- Learning Achievement Review (LAR) helps to clarify in which areas of learning the learners have provided evidence on learning progress (and in which areas not). By undertaking this review in different learning contexts it is possible to see how the workplace learning has supported long-term learning goals.
The use of the tools
The procedure for using the tools is the following:
- When you are adding a new case you get a specific 'edit' form,
- You are asked to name your basic case (give a unique Specification and a brief Title).
- You are asked to characterise your basic case (insert Title or give a brief introduction).
- You are asked to present the learning objectives or the expected learning outcomes (on which your analysis or review is based),
- You are asked to save your basic data
- You are asked to insert an analysis or review with a link button that gives you another 'edit' form,
- You are asked to name your analysis (give a Specification and a Context of Learning - please note that this analysis may refer to the basic case or to a parallel case)
- You can add further information to an optional space,
- You are asked to complete the review that is based on the objectives you have inserted earlier (point 4).
- You are asked to save your analysis/review and the system will present it.
Outcomes
When you have completed an analysis or review you will get a presentation page. The system will provide for each case a section "Summaries of analyses". If you have submitted LPA-analyses of different workplaces, you are able to compare how the learning opportunities can be linked to each other. If you have submitted several LAR-analyses you can compare the learning climate in different learning contexts. If you have submitted LPR-reviews that cross-examine training provisions (from the point of enterprises) and workplace learning (from the point of training providers) you can get starting points for partnership-oriented dialogue.
