WLP piloting agendas 2 - The case of Slovenia

This posting is the second one of a series of postings. I try to outline how the development of the WLP Web can support piloting activities (and preparatory studies) in the participating countries. The second case to be presented is the case of Slovenia. The main bulk of information is in the attached document. Below I will present a nutshell summary of the ideas.
In this posting (and in the others of this series) I try to present some cornerstoes for shaping the national WLP piloting agendas and for the related use of the WLP Web. My point is that each national team should be working with a country-specific piloting agenda and make use of a country-specific WLP Web testing area. In this phase I try to summarise the conclusions of the earlier country studies and of our discussions on the WLP Web as cotributions to a piloting agenda.

In the Slovenian context our central partner, the Solski Center Velenje (SCV), is a strong VET provider which has devloped different patterns of partnership-like cooperation with the neighbouring industries. Currently  the situation appears to be rather stable and the industrial partners seem to appreciate the current modes of education and training cooperation (traineeship placements, contracted training, jointly developed learning environments). However, the colleagues at the SCV are looking for ways to improve their pedagogic support for work-related and/or workplace-based learning.

In this respect the SCV has expressed its interest to go ahead with the  development of the KLearn instrument and its applications for individual learners. From this perspective I have made some suggestions how the "Resource Areas" could be used to gather background information for such piloting. Likewise, I have suggested that the "Support Areas" should be developed as a basis for a  tutorial workshop and as a practitioner's first aid kit for familiarisation with useful web applications and external web services.

I thnk this is enough from me at the moment. I welcome the comments and views from Miran, Janko and other colleagues from Velenje. I am very interested in the prospect of piloting with foreign exchange students/trainees. (I hope the timing is OK.)

Looking forward for further discussion on the Slovenian piloting agenda.

1 Web support for piloting activities

In this posting I'll present short outline for further piloting in Slovenia with web support
Pekka's paper has assess and analyze our situation quit OK. I have no major remarks regarding partnership constellation and development. My remarks are: 1. Web testing will be usefull for us if web application could give us an opportunity to follow up the improvement of our students. I have in mind evaluation of their gained knowledge, competency, new skills ... during their workplacement (but not in the meaning of grades). I think web application should give us "insight added value". Web application must be easy to use and usefull for both students and teachers. 2. Our organisation and implementation of workplacement of Swedish students has been accepted realy well in companies. They spent first week visiting our companies, different workshops and second week on workplacement programme. We split 7 Swedish students in 3 groups. Each group had 2 of our students as aids (helping them with language problems, work ...). With help of web application we can try to compare foreign and local students (informal learning!). 3. We are thinking to prepare some outline or model of teacher (and trainer) training in the field of workplace learning. This is (not so short as I previously thought) comment. Further elaboration can be made on partners meeting. Miran Papez

2 New possibilities for piloting in Slovenia - Good news for the WLP project

The comment of Miran shows that the effort to arrange pedagogic support for the foreign exchange students brings together several aspects of partnership cooperation. This is good news for the WLP project.
When I read the cooment of Miran I start to understand that the support arrangements for the visting students/ trainees bring different partners in Velenje to closer cooperation. This would be an ideal opportunity to pilot with a KLearn instrument customised for the Slovenian case. I hope that this test version is available soon. Therefore, I would encourage Miran and the KnowNet to have bilateral communication on this issue. I would also recommend Miran to have a closer look at my posting "Next steps for the German Piloting Agenda 1" and the attached case story on the piloting with GoLo. Perhaps you could make use of the "case story" tools as well? Pekka Kämäräinen
